SESSION I

James A. Gardner, attorney at Gardner Potter Budge Meadows, LLC will present “So you just became a landlord.” James will discuss the definition of Landlord, Tenant, and dwelling units (to many individual’s surprise), the pitfalls including reasonable accommodations, companion animals, caregivers, and the effect of the new Oregon Landlord Tenant laws and Senate Bill 608.

 

JAMES A. GARDNER is an attorney in private practice at Gardner Potter Budge Meadows, LLC.  He specializes in Landlord Tenant Law, Real Estate, Business, and Criminal Law.  James received his B.A. in 2004, his J.D. in 2008 from the University of Oregon, and his L.L.M. in Military Law and National Security in 2018. He has a multitude of experience in various areas of the law and worked as a civil litigator, prosecutor, and United States Army Judge Advocate.  James is also a Veteran of Iraq and a second-generation attorney in Eugene where his family have practice law since 1959.  Both James and his brother, Allen Gardner, have 50 years of combined experience specializing in landlord tenant, estate planning, business, and real estate.

 

SESSION II

Alissa Hansen, City of Eugene Principal Planner will present “The ABCs of Aldus.” Accessory dwelling units (Aldus) are a hot topic. This presentation will cover recent state and local regulation changes and other important tidbits to know about Aldus.

 

Alissa Hansen became hooked on the field of planning when she landed a job, at age 17, conducting a county-wide industrial lands inventory for a small coastal county in Oregon.  Since graduating with degrees in planning from the University of Oregon, she’s held numerous positions as a planner in the public sector where she’s had the opportunity to work on state, county and local planning issues. Alissa has been with the City of Eugene for the past 18 years where she’s been involved with both long range and current planning projects. She is currently a principal planner, overseeing the city’s land use review team, and working on changes to the city’s land use regulations.
